editorial shoot photos

Here is part of the contact sheets from the editorial shoot. There are alot more photos but here are the sheets from the photos that I like the most. I think the photoshoot was a success, i noticed though in a few photos the focus is off because the shutter speed wasn't fast enough for the moving subjects but there are definitely photos that don't have this. I feel like we could have played around a bit more, we tried to make it look as natural as we could but it was hard to make a good composition without posing them right. There was also alot of constraints in the location as there were big paintings on the wall that we couldn't move and we had to try and crop around those so sometimes they showed up in the frame so we may have to edit them out. We also couldn't go through with the leaves idea as we couldn't mess up the interior so we had to play around and let the subjects do their own thing.

To start off with we let the boys have a few shots by themselves and tried to make them look natural so we took photos of them while they interacted. The guitar was a great prop as the models had fun playing around with it so this made a few good shots.

Then we did a few single shots of Sophie, the main focus of this was to create a sense of dominance towards her and to have the beanie as a sort of crown symbol. I felt like these didnt work as well as we planned but they could still work.

Some of these shots of Sophie playing around were good and we got her to eat some turkish delight, a reference to Narnia and these turned out well as they were playful and showed some personality.

These were my favourite shots in front of the fireplace. They look united as a group and the various angles we got give us a few options to choose from. Im thinking i want to use one of these shots as the opening photo in my editorial as it will introduce the band well and the background to this is like in the movie Narnia when they get shipped away to a new place. The suitcases are reference to this and I feel its a great opener to the editorial.

These shots we had the models play around with the chess set and the guitar, referencing escapism but not overdoing it. It was going to be hard to show that the band were using their imagination to escape reality so with these shots they are escaping through games and music - which is what they are all about. Their music is about escaping reality and travelling through various emotions. These pictures explore this as well as showing personality of the band which we really wanted to do.

Here are some more single images of Sophie - these ones worked better as the actually played around with the beanie and I love the colours

Also did some single shots of the boys as well so we have the option to have all single shots in the editorial. The boys dont look as comfortable in front of the camera  by themselves as Sophie does but some could definitely go well when put in the context of a magazine.

Just some more group shots in front of a plain background - these worked well but again because the subjects were moving around some of the focus is out.
